My Hypothyroidism Healing Journey:

A New Beginning with YAH’s Help

I wanted to take a moment to share something personal and important that’s happening in my life. Something I believe can encourage and possibly help someone else too.

Recently, my dear sister in Christ, Dionne, noticed something about me that really made me pause. She gently pointed out that my eyes seemed to bulge a little from the side. It wasn’t something I had paid much attention to because I born with big eyes (LOL), but when she mentioned it, I remembered that my eye doctor also told me my cholesterol was high. That combination of symptoms sparked a fire in me to dig deeper and seek understanding. Dionne being a nurse, told me to research Hypothyroidism.


The Signs Were There

When I looked at the symptoms of hypothyroidism, low energy, mood changes, weight fluctuations, dry skin, cold sensitivity, puffiness, and yes, bulging eyes so much started making sense. I thought back to years ago when my holistic chiropractor told me my adrenal glands were struggling. At the time, I didn’t take it as seriously as I should have, but it’s clear now: this has been brewing for a while.

I realize it is time to make some real changes.


My Lifestyle Background

For over 10 years, I’ve lived a meat-free lifestyle—the only meat I eat is fish, and I truly believe in nourishing my body through natural, plant-based living. But even with that, I’ve had my weaknesses—like Lay’s potato chips, which I finally gave up a month ago (praise YAH!).

This isn’t about perfection. It’s about progress. And now more than ever, I’m committed to aligning my body, mind, and spirit with YAH’s will for my health.


What I’m Learning About Healing Hypothyroidism Naturally

Here’s what I’ve discovered that can help support the thyroid and overall hormonal balance naturally, especially as a 42-year-old Black woman whose body has unique needs:

 Foods That Heal:

  • Seaweed, kelp, and nori for iodine (in moderation)

  • Brazil nuts for selenium

  • Avocados, coconut oil, and wild salmon for healthy fats

  • Leafy greens, lentils, black beans for iron and minerals

  • Bone broth & berries for healing and antioxidants

🌿 Herbal Support:

  • Ashwagandha (for stress & adrenal support)

  • Bladderwrack (natural iodine)

  • Holy Basil (Tulsi) (hormone & mood support)

  • Licorice Root & Schisandra (great for adrenal fatigue)

Mineral Boosters:

  • Magnesium, zinc, iron, and Vitamin D (which many Black women are low in)


Movement, Rest, and Stillness

Exercise need to be even more intentional for me:

  • Walking outside daily for fresh air and sunshine

  • Stretching and light strength training

  • Deep breathing & prayerful meditation to calm the nervous system

I will give my body permission to rest without guilt and inviting YAH’s peace into my routines.


    My Prayer and Commitment

    So here I am, being real and vulnerable: Today marks the start of my healing journey. I’m praying and asking YAH to help me improve my health—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. I want to be a vessel of light, and I know that starts from the inside out.

    This isn’t just about me—it’s about all of us who are waking up to the call to take care of these temples He has given us. I’ll be sharing more here on YAHFRISTWELLNESS as I learn, grow, and heal.

    🧠 Cognitive + Mood Symptoms

    • Brain fog / difficulty concentrating
