Believing vs. Having Faith
What Hebrews 11 Reveals About YAH’s True Children
In today’s world, so many people claim the title “Christian” and say they believe in God. But this morning while reading Hebrews 11, I gained a deeper understanding. I felt YAH showing me that believing in Him and having faith in Him are completely different in His eyes.
We live in a time where belief has become casual. It’s often just a word people say or a box they check on paper. But Hebrews 11 paints a clear picture of what truly pleases YAH. It’s not just saying you believe. It’s living like you trust Him no matter what.
Look at the lives of Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Sarah, Moses, and others. They didn’t just believe in YAH. They showed their faith through action. They obeyed even when it didn’t make sense. They trusted YAH through uncertainty. They moved when He said move. That’s what real faith looks like.
YAH’s true children are the ones who live differently. They don’t follow the world. They walk in obedience. They cling to YAH’s promises even when the outcome isn’t clear. Faith transforms your life. It causes you to act, to endure, and to stand strong even in the face of doubt.
YAH is not impressed by empty belief. James 2:19 says, “You believe that God is one. Good. Even the demons believe—and shudder.” That verse hit me. The difference between us and the enemy is faith that leads to action. Faith that reflects YAH’s heart.
Hebrews 11 showed me that YAH’s children trust Him even when they can’t see the way. They let go of control. They say yes to YAH when it’s uncomfortable. They walk in faith daily, not just when it’s easy.
So today I ask myself and I ask you too—are we just saying we believe, or are we living by faith? Because YAH is looking for a faithful people. Not perfect. But faithful.
May we be found walking in true faith. Not just belief with words, but faith that moves.
In the Bible, faith and belief are closely related, but they are not exactly the same. Here’s a breakdown of the difference:
- Belief (Greek: pisteuō)
Definition: To accept something as true or to think something is real.
Biblical use: Often used to describe intellectual agreement or acknowledgment.
Example: “You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder.” (James 2:19)
Key point: Belief can exist without trust or action. Even demons “believe” in God’s existence, but they don’t trust or follow Him.
- Faith (Greek: pistis)
Definition: A deep trust or confidence in someone or something, especially God.
Biblical use: Goes beyond belief—it involves trust, reliance, and commitment.
Example: “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1)
Key point: Faith includes belief, but it also includes trust and obedience. It moves us to act on what we believe.
Summary:
Belief = agreeing that something is true.
Faith = believing and trusting to the point of action and obedience.
Think of it like this:
You can believe a chair will hold you (belief), but until you sit in it (faith), you haven’t demonstrated your trust.
